Kamehameha Day Lei Draping Ceremony, Washington, D.C. | Sun. June 16

Writer: ealaehccealaehcc

At the annual Lei Draping Ceremony held at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Washington, D.C., the Hawai`i community gathered to honor Kamehameha I and St. Damien. Many different groups came together to oli, present lei, and share hula with the audience that included members of the Hawai`i Congressional delegation and other dignitaries from organizations from Hawai`i. For those who’ve never experienced this ceremony, Kamehameha’s statue is beneath a huge skylight, and each year, when the sun shines through, it illuminates a sun-filled pathway that leads to his feet! Breathtaking!
