On behalf of E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center's 'Ohana, we wish you all a Hauʻoli makahiki hou! Happy new year! As the rising of Makaliʻi (the constellation Pleiades) in the east falls in sync with the setting of the sun in the west, this marks the beginning of the Makahiki season and the Hawaiian new year (October/November). As the season of giving quickly approaches, let us consider what we may have to offer others, and let us be ever mindful of ways in which we can practice our own forms of ho‘okupu (offerings or symbolic gifts), however big or small.

Here are a few resources to provide more details about such an amazing time of year. Mahalo Ka’iwakīloumoku: Pacific Indigenous Institute for sharing such amazing content!
